IAM Says “Gov. Moore And Lt. Gov. Miller Have Shown They Understand That A Strong Maryland Economy Starts With Workers Who Can Bargain For Fair Wages And Safe Jobs”
Yesterday, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Maryland and D.C. State Council of Machinists announced its endorsement of Gov. Wes Moore and Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller as they seek reelection–citing their record on growing the state’s labor movement, workplace protections, and collective bargaining rights for the thousands of IAM members who live and work across Maryland.
“Protecting Maryland’s working families has always been our number one priority, and with the help of IAM, we will win in November and keep delivering for the people who make Maryland work,” said Gov. Wes Moore and Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller. “From raising the wages of over 160,000 Marylanders to expanding tax credits supporting over 34,000 children we have been able to deliver real results for Maryland families, but that is just the beginning of what it looks like to create a Maryland that leaves no one behind. Together we will work alongside IAM to continue strengthening Maryland’s economy by ensuring more Marylanders can live a safe and secure middle class life.”
“Gov. Moore and Lt. Gov. Miller have shown they understand that a strong Maryland economy starts with workers who can bargain for fair wages and safe jobs,” said Maryland and D.C. State Council of Machinists President Rick Compher. “When Apple punished our members at IAM Local 4538 in Towson, Gov. Moore didn’t stay silent. He spoke out about how our members deserved the same transfer rights as every other Apple employee. From IAM members at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River (PAX) to those keeping air travel moving at Baltimore’s Thurgood Marshall International Airport to those working in the federal and defense sector across the region, IAM families have a stake in who leads this state. Gov. Moore and Lt. Gov. Miller have proven they support working families.”
With nearly 600,000 active and retired members, the IAM is one of the largest and most diverse labor unions in North America. From Boeing and Lockheed Martin to United Airlines and Harley-Davidson, you will find IAM members across all walks of life. The IAM Union represents thousands of workers across Maryland and the District of Columbia in the aerospace, shipbuilding, transportation, and federal sectors.
In January, Moore-Miller for Maryland announced a record-breaking fundraising year of $7 million–the most ever raised in an off year in Maryland, and the campaign currently has a staggering $7.4 million cash-on-hand. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers joins 1199SEIU, the American Federation of Government Employees, Maryland League of Conservation Voters, Maryland REALTORS®, Maryland International Association of Fire Fighters, Maryland’s largest union, the Maryland State Education Association, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 500, as well as Democrats and Republicans from across the state in endorsing Governor Wes Moore for reelection.
