The American Federation of Government Employees Endorse Governor Wes Moore

AFGE Says Governor Moore Has Shown “Unwavering Support For Federal Employees And Working Families”

Today, the American Federation of Government Employees announced their endorsement of Maryland Gov. Wes Moore as he seeks reelection in 2026.

“At a time where Washington has been hell bent on attacking our public servants, I’m proud to stand alongside the American Federation of Government Employees to defend them,” said Governor Wes Moore. “When the Trump Administration fired over 31,000 Marylanders, we took action by launching efforts to connect federal workers to job openings in high-demand industries across the state. Here in Maryland, we will continue to show people there’s a better way forward by having the backs’ of those who have raised their hands to serve our state and our country.”

“Governor Moore has stepped up at a time when federal employees have faced uncertainty and displacement,” said AFGE District 14 National Vice President Ottis Johnson Jr. “He understands that Maryland is home to a large federal workforce, and when those workers are impacted, our communities and our economy feel it. His leadership has reflected a clear commitment to supporting working families during those challenges.”

“Maryland’s economy is deeply connected to its federal workforce,” said AFGE District 4 National Vice President Christine Surrette. “When federal employees are affected, it has a ripple effect across the state. Governor Moore has recognized that connection and has worked to support both workers and the broader economic stability of our communities.”

AFGE is once again endorsing Governor Wes Moore because of his leadership and responsiveness to issues facing federal workers and their families during a tumultuous time. They state his leadership reflects a clear understanding of the connection between federal service and Maryland’s economic stability, particularly in a state where thousands of families rely on federal employment.

AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing more than 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 4 represents nearly 43,000 employees in Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia, while District 14 represents nearly 70,000 workers in the Washington metropolitan area and Europe. They support the more than 225,000 federal employees who live in Maryland – caring for veterans, supporting the military, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time.

In the wake of unlawful attacks from the Trump Administration on Maryland’s federal workers,  Governor Moore announced a series of actions to help Marylanders impacted by federal workforce layoffs and firings. Gov. Moore stood up for Maryland’s public servants who have been fired or laid off by the Trump administration by launching efforts to connect federal workers to nearly 130,000 job openings in high-demand Maryland industries and launching an initiative to support federal workers interested in starting a career as teachers or with positions in state government.

In January, Moore-Miller for Maryland announced a record-breaking fundraising year of $7 million–the most ever raised in an off year in Maryland, and the campaign currently has a staggering $7.6 million cash-on-hand. The American Federation of Government Employees joins the Maryland League of Conservation Voters, the Maryland REALTORS®, Maryland International Association of Fire Fighters, Maryland’s largest union, the Maryland State Education Association,Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 500, as well as Democrats and Republicans from across the state in endorsing Governor Wes Moore for reelection.
