SEIU Local 500 Endorses Governor Wes Moore For Reelection

GAITHERSBURG, MD – Today, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 500 announced their endorsement of Governor Wes Moore’s 2026 reelection campaign. This announcement follows a lengthy list of Maryland leaders and Republicans across the state that have endorsed Gov. Moore’s reelection campaign.

“We’re honored to earn the support of the over 20,000 SEIU Local 500 members that work tirelessly everyday to make a Maryland that leaves no one behind,” said Governor Wes Moore and Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller. “Alongside members of SEIU Local 500, we’ve increased Maryland’s minimum wage and supported our workers across the state. As we march forward toward next November, we’re excited they will continue to play a critical role in continuing to make Maryland a state that fights for and protects working families.”

“On one issue after another, the governor has proven himself to be an ally of workers, whether it’s been on the fight for $15 or paid family medical leave, a basic economic right that has been denied working people for far too long,” said Travis B. Simon, Executive Director of SEIU Local 500. “Governor Moore’s steadfast support for paid family and medical leave is so important, because he understands that families like mine — and like so many across Maryland — should be able to focus on healing and caring without the added burden of financial fear.”

“Leave no one behind isn’t just a tagline on a sign – and it’s not just a campaign slogan either,” said Pia Morrison, President of SEIU Local 500. “This is the governing philosophy of Governor Moore, and we see the importance he places on this philosophy in everything he does, whether it’s standing for paid family and medical leave… supporting our public schools, or defending our state and our communities against the abuses being committed just down the street.”

SEIU Local 500 represents over 20,000 workers across the region, from over 10,000 support staff professionals at Montgomery County Public Schools to faculty, staff and graduate student workers in the higher education sector to childcare providers to nonprofit employees and more.
