Today, the Maryland International Association of Fire Fighters announced they will endorse Governor Wes Moore as he seeks reelection in 2026.
“I’m proud to have the Maryland International Association of Fire Fighters alongside me as we continue the work to build a Maryland that leaves no one behind,” said Governor Wes Moore. “Our first responders have always been there for us, and we have led this state with their health, safety, and well-being at the top of mind. Since I’ve taken office we’ve proudly introduced and passed legislation to expand compensation for firefighters and other first responders, add thyroid, colon, and ovarian cancers to the list of conditions covered by dangerous job-related exposure, and we’ve made sure these brave public servants have a seat at the table when it comes to collective bargaining.”
“Governor Wes Moore has proven time and again that he stands with the Professional Fire Fighters of Maryland and understands the realities of our job,” said Jeff Buddle, President of the Maryland International Association of Fire Fighters. “Gov. Moore has supported collective bargaining rights, presumptive health protections, and funding for fire fighter training initiatives that ensure our members are prepared to meet the demands of an increasingly complex and dangerous profession. His actions demonstrate real respect for the fire fighters who put their lives on the line every day by maintaining an open door and a seat at the table on issues impacting firefighter health, safety, and working conditions. That’s why the Professional Fire Fighters of Maryland proudly endorse Governor Moore for reelection in 2026.”
Since taking office, Governor Moore has taken bold action for the health, safety and well-being of our fire fighters and first responders. In 2024, he introduced and passed The Caring for Public Employees in Safety Professions (CAPES) Act, expanding workers compensation presumptions for firefighters to cover thyroid, colon, and ovarian cancers. He has also worked to ensure firefighters and other first responders receive the benefits they’ve earned, by continuing his commitment to organized labor and working people everywhere.
The Maryland International Association of Fire Fighters joins Maryland’s largest union, the Maryland State Education Association, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 500, as well as Democrats and Republicans from across the state in endorsing Governor Moore’s reelection campaign.
