Maryland’s Largest Police Union Endorses Wes Moore for Maryland Governor

The Maryland State Fraternal Order of Police backs Wes Moore for Governor, joining broad and powerful coalition

FOP endorsement makes clear that Moore-Miller campaign is the clear choice for public safety

SOLOMONS ISLAND, Md. (Aug. 18, 2022) – This week, Maryland’s largest Police Union, The Maryland State Fraternal Order of Police, voted to endorse Wes Moore in the 2022 Maryland Gubernatorial Election.

“This endorsement reflects the strength of our coalition that is committed to ensuring public safety by bringing Maryland together,” said Wes Moore. “There is no greater responsibility for a chief executive than ensuring that everyone in Maryland is safe in their own communities, and law enforcement has a critical role to play in that effort.”

Moore had to earn more than 60 percent of the vote in order to secure the endorsement. The FOP also endorsed Anthony Brown for Attorney General (who they endorsed for governor in 2014), and Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-2) for Congress.

The Maryland State Fraternal Order of Police joins a powerful list of labor endorsements for Wes Moore’s campaign, including the Baltimore Fire Officers Union Local 964, Ironworkers Local 5, and the Maryland State Education Association.

Moore released his comprehensive public safety plan in February that includes fixing Maryland’s broken parole and probation system; swiftly and aggressively combating gun violence; investing in proven community-based violence intervention programs and building strong partnerships with communities and law enforcement to identify individuals at-risk of violence, connect them to essential resources and interrupt lethal cycles of violence; and more.
