Maryland Leaders Praise Governor Moore For Taking Action During Government Shutdown

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Yesterday, Governor Wes Moore declared a State of Emergency during the ongoing federal government shutdown to help deliver resources and provide $10 million in emergency funding to Maryland food security partners. Leaders from across the state offered praise for Governor Moore’s actions to protect Marylanders as the Trump Administration tells Maryland we’re on our own.

Congressman Steny Hoyer on X said “In the face of Trump’s illegal action to withhold SNAP funding, the MD Delegation is glad to see Gov. Wes Moore take action to protect vulnerable families.”

In an interview with WUSA 9 Congressman Glenn Ivey said “I commend the governor for taking this dramatic step, declaring a state of emergency is the only way to go at this point.”

Senator Angela Alsobrooks on X said “I’m thankful to Governor Moore for working to ensure Marylanders don’t go hungry because the President is refusing to fund SNAP.”
As the shutdown drags on, the State of Maryland continues to offer supports for federal employees and other workers impacted by federal actions and information on available resources.
