Today, the Moore-Miller for Maryland campaign released its first ad of the general election cycle, “Two Baskets,” highlighting Governor Moore’s first-in-the-nation legislation to ban dynamic pricing in Maryland grocery stores.
“Two Baskets will tell voters across the state about the real results Governor Moore delivered to protect Marylanders from big chain stores using predatory pricing practices against them to jack up their grocery prices and is the start of a multi-seven-figure ad buy,”said Senior Communications Adviser Carter Elliott, IV. “At a time where the Trump Administration is skyrocketing costs on Marylanders, Gov. Moore passed legislation to ensure that big companies in Maryland can’t drive up the bill on working families for their own profit.”

The Protection From Predatory Pricing Act (HB 895) made Maryland the first state in the country to ban price manipulation practices driven by the ability to instantly spike prices based on surveillance data. The legislation prohibits grocers and third-party delivery services from using dynamic pricing or an individual’s personal data to set higher prices, ensuring consumers pay a transparent, consistent price at the register.
Below Is A Transcript Of The New Ad:
Gov. Wes Moore: Two shoppers.
Same groceries.
Same store, same day.
But somehow, one of them is charged more than the other.
This can really happen because big grocery stores can use your personal data to charge you more than others.
They call it “dynamic pricing”
Marylander: I call it ripping us off
Gov. Wes Moore: So we passed the first law in the nation to ban it.
Because nobody should get scammed while trying to feed their family.
Not now. Not ever. And definitely not on my watch.
