Gov. Moore Proposes Record Funding For K-12 Schools

Governor Wes Moore announced today that he will  invest a record $10.2 billion in funding for K-12 schools through  his proposed FY 2027 budget–marking what would be the fourth straight year of record funding for Maryland’s schools under the Moore-Miller administration.

“Governor Moore is committed to ensuring Maryland’s children have access to the best public education possible, regardless of their zip code,” said Senior Communications Adviser Carter Elliott, IV. “After reducing teacher vacancies by 58% and overseeing a rise in reading and math scores in nearly every single grade level, Governor Moore is doubling down to ensure every Maryland child has the tools they need to succeed.”

For the past three years, Governor Moore has put record funding into Maryland’s public schools. He continued the fight to ensure our children have access to the best public education possible by leading the charge last year to put a historic $9.8 billion investment this year in K–12 schools. In his first year, the governor committed to tackling Maryland’s teacher shortage crisis by passing the Maryland Educator Shortage Reduction Act, and now, just three years later, the teacher vacancy rate has dropped 58%.

These record investments and historic actions are showing results across the state, with recent reporting showing that statewide, nearly every single grade has made improvements in reading and math scores. And, Maryland’s public schools have improved for the third consecutive year, according to the latest Maryland School Report Card.
