Maryland Energy Administration Launched Slate Of Funding To Help Residents Cut Energy Bills
Gov. Wes Moore announced a new slate of funding programs this week aimed at helping Maryland residents cut utility bills and transition toward renewable energy.
The initiatives, launched by the Maryland Energy Administration for fiscal year 2027, focus on expanding access to residential solar power, energy efficiency upgrades, home electric vehicle charging, and zero-emission commercial vehicles.
State officials said the funding is intended to provide financial relief to households facing rising electricity costs while moving the state closer to its broader climate targets.
“When we invest in clean energy, we are not only cutting utility costs for the communities that need it the most, but protecting the environment in the process,” Moore said in a statement. He emphasized that the programs are designed to increase access to reliable power while centering affordability for Maryland families.
Gov. Moore Fought Back Against Trump’s Cuts To Food Assistance
Gov. Wes Moore highlighted new data that demonstrates the impact of new federal restrictions on Marylanders’ SNAP benefits.
Following the federal changes that took effect on Nov. 1, 2025, at least 35,861 Marylanders subject to the rules have lost their SNAP benefits.
Those who lost those benefits include:
- 12,401 adults ages 55 to 64
- 11,974 people in families with children ages 14-17
- 11,472 people experiencing homelessness
- And 4,566 lawful immigrants, including refugees and people granted asylum.
The Moore-Miller administration is taking steps to help eligible people living in Maryland keep and reconnect to their benefits.
“Despite unprecedented federal attacks on the services our communities rely on for their wellbeing, we’re fighting back against H.R. 1 to ensure Maryland families have access to their food assistance,” said Gov. Moore. “Our administration is working to remove federal red tape and connect eligible Marylanders to SNAP benefits. Our efforts are working; and we remain committed to protecting our people in these difficult times, so families don’t go hungry.”
Gov. Moore Awards $5 Million To Expand Apprenticeship Programs Across Maryland
Governor Wes Moore today announced $5 million in awards through the Maryland Department of Labor’s Industry Apprenticeship Accelerator, an initiative that will expand registered apprenticeship in Maryland’s high-growth industries, like healthcare, information technology, and early childhood education.
“To win the fights of tomorrow, we are building pathways to work, wages and wealth today by expanding access to apprenticeship opportunities,” said Gov. Moore. “We are investing in and implementing innovative strategies to meet high growth industries demand, all while expanding our economy, supporting our communities, and strengthening Maryland’s skilled workforce to leave no one behind.”

The governor announced Thursday that Maryland will offer expedited admissions support and an $800 credit to any incoming student affected by Howard’s mass disenrollment, according to the governor’s official announcement. That gives families a real option just weeks before the fall semester starts.
Democrats Are Reclaiming The Flag, And Wes Moore Is Leading The Charge
This past fourth of July, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) went before the television cameras to deliver an important address about patriotism.
Patriotism, Moore declared, means fighting for values and “the hope of a future even if we will never see it.” Using that standard, he argued that Americans must see the humanity and pain in one another and remember that “God’s grace is not only offered to the saint [but] to the sinner, too.”
In his speech, Moore drew a bright line between patriotism and President Trump’s nationalism. Nationalism, he said, “emboldens people to feel bigger than somebody else — to name the grievance, to find the target, to give people someone to blame.”
Fear is nationalism’s rocket fuel. Faith is what sustains patriotism.
Moore’s speech matters because the sentiments he expressed are being echoed by Democrats across the country. Trump has upended the American compact — namely, the civil religion of the country that affirms the principles of the Declaration of Independence and upholds the U.S. Constitution designed to implement them.

In reclaiming the flag, Democrats are rejecting Trump’s blood and soil nationalism in favor of a patriotism rooted in the principles of the Declaration of Independence and the adherence to the U.S. Constitution. Echoing John F. Kennedy’s 1960 slogan that it’s a “Time for Greatness,” Democrats are reclaiming the flag and, in Moore’s words, “taking ownership for what America can become.”
