Gov. Moore Holds ‘Massive’ Cash Advantage Over Dan Cox
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore holds an overwhelming financial advantage over Republican Dan Cox as the two prepare for a rematch of their lopsided 2022 contest, according to newly filed campaign finance reports.
“Governor Moore and Lieutenant Governor Miller’s grassroots army has put them in a position to win big in November and ensure Maryland is competing up and down the ballot in every corner of the state,” said Senior Communications Adviser Carter Elliott, IV. “This campaign’s momentum has been powered by the nearly 17,000 Marylanders that have pitched in to ensure we send Gov. Moore and Lt. Gov. Miller back to Annapolis to keep growing our economy, continue delivering record drops in violent crime, and build upon a five year high in reading and math test scores.”
Cox Accepts Gov. Moore’s Challenge To Debate
Gov. Wes Moore will face his Republican challenger, Dan Cox, in a televised debate in October, both campaigns announced Wednesday.
The candidates will face off on Maryland Public Television on Oct. 6.
The candidates ran against each other for Maryland’s top job in 2022 and debated ahead of the November election.
“We’re glad that Dan Cox has accepted our challenge,” Carter Elliott IV, a Moore campaign spokesperson, said in a statement.
Gov. Moore Announces $10M In Protections Against Hate Crimes
Gov. Wes Moore this week announced $10 million in state grant funding to bolster security for faith-based institutions, community centers, and non-profit organizations at risk of hate crimes across Maryland.
The Fiscal Year 2027 Protection Against Hate Crimes grant program, administered through the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy, awards funds to 116 organizations spread across 16 Maryland counties and Baltimore City.
The state funding is intended to protect groups targeted because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, or disability status. Recipients include synagogues, mosques, and LGBTQ+ community organizations.
Grants cover expenses including armed security guards, access control systems, video surveillance cameras, building hardening, emergency communication upgrades, and specialized staff training. Individual grant sizes vary based on institutional needs, supporting smaller houses of worship as well as large campus organizations.
Gov. Moore emphasized that protecting vulnerable communities remains a primary state priority, stating that Maryland has zero tolerance for hate and is committed to maintaining safe gathering spaces.
Gov. Moore Rails Against ICE Operations In Maryland
Moore released the following statement after DHS officials announced the mass deportation operations in Maryland, “without notifying state officials”:
“Public safety is my top priority, and Marylanders know I have neither patience nor tolerance for violent criminals. When federal law enforcement takes violent offenders off our streets and lawfully removes them from our country, that makes our communities safer. Maryland will continue working with our federal partners to do exactly that.
“But ICE’s own numbers tell a very different story. According to them, a mere fraction of the more than 1,300 people they arrested in the past two weeks had ever been convicted of or charged with any crimes. We’ve seen frightening footage of older women being taken from their apartment buildings, workers chased in residential neighborhoods, parents separated from American children – and we are deeply concerned by reports that an individual suffered a broken neck during an ICE arrest.
“These actions also undermine our economy. I’ve heard firsthand from business leaders across the state that these immigration policies are taking legal workers out of our nursing homes, scaring farmworkers from showing up to work, and making the cost of everything from groceries to delivery services higher.
“We do not have to choose between holding violent offenders accountable and protecting the constitutional rights and basic dignity of our neighbors. In Maryland, we will continue to do both.”
Gov. Moore Donates Blood Amid Nationwide Shortage
Maryland and the nation continue to face a major blood shortage. Governor Moore rolled up his sleeves and donated to the American Red Cross. The governor is encouraging anyone who is able to donate to do so right away.
