“I’ve Been A Republican All My Life… But I’ll Proudly Cross That Party Line To Back Governor Wes Moore And His Mission To Build A Maryland That Leaves No One Behind”
– Former Delegate Carl Anderton
ANNAPOLIS, MD – This weekend, former Republican Delegate Carl Anderton published an opinion piece in The Star Democrat highlighting his support for Governor Moore’s 2026 reelection campaign.

I’ve been a Republican all my life–as the Mayor of my town, as a Delegate who defeated a Democratic incumbent to serve in Annapolis, and I voted for Donald Trump in the last presidential election. There’s no doubt I’m a Republican, but I’ll proudly cross that party line to back Governor Wes Moore and his mission to build a Maryland that leaves no one behind.
I was born in Salisbury, raised near Crisfield, and served the people of Delmar for two decades–I know what it’s like to live in a community that feels forgotten by Annapolis. I’ve worked with a lot of local leaders and several governors, trust me when I tell you, Wes Moore is different.
In two and half years, he’s made fifty-one visits to the Eastern Shore, and just last week was the first governor to visit Smith Island since 1999. But, he doesn’t just come to the shore, he brings investment with him.
Since taking office he’s put $1.9 billion in education funding here; he’s made historic investments in rural health care and hospitals opening TidalHealth in Salisbury and breaking ground on the UM Shore Regional Medical Center; he’s put a $10 million investment to improve our waterways up and down the shore; and, he’s cut through the red tape to open and expand businesses in places like Caroline County and Dorchester County.
But, perhaps most importantly he’s focused two of the state’s strongest poverty fighting initiatives in our rural communities. His ENOUGH Act includes funding to Dorchester and Caroline counties to end generational childhood poverty, and Cambridge was named as one of the first Just Communities giving them priority access to funding that will help increase assets, home ownership, and home values.
We are seeing momentum across the state and in our own communities that we just can’t afford to lose. I’ve endorsed him, I believe in him, and I’m proud to work alongside him, because I know Governor Moore fights for the shore.
Last month, Republican leaders from across the state endorsed Governor Wes Moore’s 2026 reelection campaign citing his commitment to bipartisanship and his efforts to lift up all Marylanders.
