Wes Moore issues statement on Rushern Baker suspending campaign for Maryland governor
BALTIMORE (June 10, 2022) – Democratic candidate for Maryland governor Wes Moore issued the following statement on former County Executive Rushern Baker suspending his campaign for governor:
“I want to commend former Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker on the leadership, integrity, and fundamental decency he has exhibited throughout not only this campaign, but for his entire career in public service. I am deeply proud to call him a friend.
“The manner in which former County Executive Baker ran his campaign is a reflection of his own character. We saw it in how he restored honor and economic prosperity to Prince George’s County as county executive. We saw it in how he clearly leads with love not only as a public servant but in his private life as a husband and father. And it is why I am certain his voice will continue to push the public debate forward.
“As he suspends his campaign for Governor, I know that the truth he spoke to the issues Maryland families are facing – from the economic and moral consequences of crime in Baltimore to transportation, housing, healthcare, and more – will persist. As will the lasting impact he has made in the lives of Maryland families.”
