Wes Moore announces plan to end Maryland’s teacher shortage
Moore outlines plan to raise teacher salaries, increase school funding, and strengthen collective bargaining rights for educators
Promises to give teachers and students the ‘support they need to be successful inside and outside the classroom’
BALTIMORE (Sept. 1, 2022) – Today, Wes Moore released a plan to combat Maryland’s teacher shortage by raising teacher salaries, increasing educational funding, and strengthening collective bargaining rights for educators.
Moore comes from a long line of educators and strongly believes in the power of education. He has dedicated his career to improving access to education. He also founded a Baltimore-based small business geared towards improving college completion rates for historically underserved Marylanders, and during his tenure, retention rates increased by nearly 20%. And, that work to ensure every Marylander has access to a world class education is exactly what he wants to continue as the next Governor of Maryland.
“Despite the challenges facing teachers in the classrooms over the past few years, our teachers and educators have been working tirelessly to ensure our students have a world-class education,” said Wes Moore. “When our teachers succeed, our students succeed. Which is why we must address our teacher shortages by providing the pay, benefits, and support they need to be successful inside and outside the classroom. As governor, that’s exactly what I’ll do.”
