FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (Dec. 6, 2021) – Today, State Senator Obie Patterson (District 26), who currently serves as Deputy Majority Whip, announced his endorsement of Wes Moore for Governor of Maryland.

Patterson, who is Vice Chair of the Prince George’s County Senate delegation, previously served in Maryland’s House of Delegates, and represented District 8 in the Prince George’s County Council. In the senate, he serves on the Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee, the Joint Committee on Gaming Oversight, and the Commission on Environmental Justice and Sustainable Communities.

“I am endorsing and throwing my full support behind Wes Moore for Governor because a movement is taking place in our great state. A movement that provides inclusion, access to good health care, a strong and viable vision for our education system —  with a strong component for Career Technical Education, and a plan to vastly improve our environment,” Patterson said. “Wes Moore is a dedicated public servant and exactly the right leader to meet this moment. He has served our country everywhere from the U.S. Army, a small business owner, and the nonprofit sector.”

Patterson’s endorsement is further evidence of the momentum and excitement surrounding Moore’s candidacy, and highlights Moore’s broad appeal. A veteran, small business owner, and former CEO of one of the nation’s largest non-profits, Moore has amassed dozens of endorsements from elected officials, who echo that he is uniquely qualified to lead the state and bring generational change to Annapolis.

“We are turning this moment into a movement, and our campaign is tapping into a statewide energy for generational change to the long term challenges we are facing.”  Moore said. “Senator Patterson’s leadership in the Senate and in Prince George’s County are immense. I’m honored to receive his support and eager to work with him in Annapolis.”

In endorsing Moore, Patterson joins former chairs of the Maryland Democratic Party Michael Cryor and Susie Turnbull; VoteVetsPAC, one of the top veterans advocacy organizations in the country; Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman; Montgomery County Councilmember Will Jawando (At Large); Sen. Cheryl Kagan (District 17); Baltimore City Councilmembers Zeke Cohen (District 1);  Mark Conway (District 4); James Torrence (District 7); John Bullock (District 9); Phylicia Porter (District 10); Eric Costello (District 11); Odette Ramos (District 14); Sen. Antonio Hayes (District 40); and Delegates Marlon Amprey (District 40), Frank Conaway, Jr. (District 40), Melissa Wells (District 40); and Stephanie Smith (District 45), who is Chair of the Baltimore City Delegation.
