ANNAPOLIS, MD – Yesterday, WJZ highlighted how Governor Wes Moore and Maryland leaders are “doubling down on their commitment to supporting Maryland’s federal workers as the federal government shutdown reaches its eighth day.”
“I want to be clear that here in Maryland, we will continue to do everything in our power to protect our people,” said Governor Wes Moore. “We have federal workers who continue to do their jobs with discipline, dignity, and distinction–withholding backpay would be a thumb in the eye of our public servants. The President of the United States is willing to shut down his own government and rob hard working men and women of their paycheck, our public servants deserve more than this.”

WJZ notes that “Gov. Moore has been adamant about his commitment to providing assistance to federal workers in Maryland,” and that the governor has “directed state agencies to ‘use contingency plans’ to keep critical services running, including federal programs such as Medicaid, SNAP and Head Start.”
Last week, Governor Wes Moore announced three immediate actions to support Marylanders:
- State agencies will employ contingency plans that will help make sure federal programs continue to operate in our state, for now.
- The state will work with the private sector to shield federal workers impacted by this shutdown from eviction, foreclosure, and utility shutoffs.
- Maryland will protect and expand emergency assistance programs for federal employees.
The Moore-Miller Administration has provided a website which outlines resources available to impacted federal employees and contractors that can be found here.
