Homicides In Maryland Have Dropped By 44% Since Gov. Moore Took Office

Governor Wes Moore announced today that homicides in Maryland have fallen a staggering 44% since his administration took office. The announcement also noted that under Moore’s administration, homicides are down 58% in Baltimore City, down 39% in Prince George’s County, and non-fatal shootings have declined 40% statewide. Following this, the governor doubled down on his all-of-the-above approach to public safety by proposing a record $124.1 million in funding to support law enforcement in the governor’s proposed FY 2027 budget.

“Governor Moore is sending a clear message to the State of Maryland: we’ve made great progress, but the work is not done,” said Senior Communications Adviser Carter Elliott, IV. “The governor will continue to ensure our law enforcement officials have the tools they need to make our communities safer while also providing the necessary support to community organizations and resources that invest in our people.”

Preliminary data also showed in 2025:

  • Homicides went down 25% statewide—the lowest in nearly 40 years.
  • Non-fatal shootings went down 28% statewide compared to 2024.
  • Robberies went down more than 25% statewide—extending a decades-long continuous drop in incidents.

Before Governor Moore took office, crime ran rampant throughout the entire state of Maryland–Baltimore was averaging nearly a homicide a day, non-fatal shootings, and auto thefts were at alarming highs. Since taking office, Governor Moore has put record funding in local law enforcement, over $50 million to Baltimore City alone. The governor has also directed $10.8 million in funding into the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office since taking office.
