Governor Moore Attends Professional Fire Fighters Of Maryland Convention In Ocean City

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Yesterday, Governor Wes Moore traveled to Ocean City during Fire Prevention Week to attend the Professional Fire Fighters of Maryland Convention and meet with fire fighters from across the state.

“Our firefighters will always have a full partner in the Maryland State House as long as I am governor,” said Governor Wes Moore. “We are talking about Marylanders who will walk through fire if it means keeping us safe–the least we can do is lend our full support. This is why we passed legislation like the Jimmy Malone Act to mandate cancer screening coverage for firefighters and the CAPES Act to expand workers’ compensation to include coverage for thyroid, colon, and ovarian cancers. There is still more work to be done but we will continue to make the health and safety of our fire fighters a priority.”

“We truly value the partnership we have with Governor Moore,” said President of the Professional Fire Fighters of Maryland Jeff Buddle. “Alongside the governor we have been able to make some real accomplishments to ensure our fire fighters have the best health, safety, and working conditions possible, as well as better wages and benefits. We know Governor Moore has our backs, and we look forward to continuing this partnership with him.”

In the past two legislative sessions, Governor Moore has proudly signed legislation to ensure cancer screening for Maryland’s fire fighters, and to expand workers’ compensation to include coverage for thyroid, colon, and ovarian cancers.

In March, Governor Moore also signed a memorandum of understanding with several state employee labor unions, including the BWI Airport Professional Firefighters-International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1742. These agreements aim to raise wages and improve working conditions for our brave fire fighters and first responders.
